Fair Work Commission Defers Award Increase Until October 2022

While a pay award was expected on the 1st of July, the Fair Work Commission previously announced that they have deferred the implementation of the increase for hospitality awards until the 1st of October.

As a reminder, the AHA NSW shared in a release that there would be an “increase in the national minimum wage and minimum rates in modern awards at different rates of 5.2 – 4.6 % depending on the employee’s classification, resulting in an increase of at least $40 per week.”

These are expected to take effect from the “first full pay period commencing on or after the 1st October 2022.”

What does this mean for you?

While this is not new news, we have had a few questions about the impact it will have on your hospitality business. The key point to remember is:

  • Customers with enterprise agreements should review their position. Ensure your rates are not less than the minimum rates in the relevant modern award once the changes take effect. Should you need to make any changes to your agreement, please advise us.

As part of our service to our clients on both the HIGA and RIA awards using our Awards Engine, we will be updating the awards on your behalf in line with the updated rates.

If you have any questions about your awards or rate agreements, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
